Rubies are incredibly special as they can have the highest worth of any other coloured gemstone per carat. The ruby gets its name from the Latin “ruber” meaning red. We associate the colour red with all our most intense emotions, from passion to anger. This is very much how the ruby has been represented throughout the ages as a token of wealth, success and love. In terms of colours, rubies can range from pure red to princess pink and purple hues. Rubies are the birthstone for July and used to celebrate 15th and 40th wedding anniversaries.
